Exploring Science Communication in Your Classroom and Beyond

Do you love animals? Then you will love going behind the scenes with a Vet Tech from the California Science Center! Our Vet Techs take care of a wide variety of animals at the California Science Center, from the fishes in our Kelp Tank to lizards in the Desert Zone. You’ll go on a 30 minutes of activities to explore thinking like a Vet Tech and a 30 minute Q&A with one of our Vet Techs.

Women in Construction (WIC) Week highlights women as a visible component of the construction industry. WIC Week also raises awareness about the opportunities available for women who are construction workers. During the week, LINXS will be inviting partnering schools to show students how they can plan and prepare for a career in construction. LINXS Youth Engagement will be hosting a panel of dynamic women who currently work in the construction arena. We hope there will be information that all students can take away to help them become part of the solution of our future as they think about the various construction careers.

Cartoons and Coding: An Interactive Workshop for Educator

In this 1 hour interactive workshop we will explore topics such as equity, computer science, and teamwork. We'll begin by watching a short STTF cartoon that gets us thinking about equity and what it looks like to look after our community. We'll end by reprogramming a game so that it is both fun and fair! You'll have access to the cartoon and coding lessons that you can take back to your students!

You’re invited to the annual Harvey Mudd College Women Engineers and Scientists of Tomorrow WEST Conference 2021 held on Saturday, March 27th from 8:30 am-4:30 pm Pacific Time on Zoom. WEST Conference is a one-day conference for high school girls to visit the Harvey Mudd College campus (through Zoom), participate in a day of science and engineering workshops, and get an idea of what it is like to be a woman scientist or engineer for a day.
Participants have the opportunity to attend workshops presented by our very own Mudd professors. Attendees are allowed a chance to listen and ask questions to a panel of current Mudd students from each technical major. Parents are welcome to attend certain parts of the conference such as the panel, admission talk, and keynote speaker. In addition, there will be opportunities for participants to chat with professors, current Mudd students, and other attendees in breakout rooms, during breaks, and at lunch. For the first time, WEST Conference is FREE to attend. However, any donations would be greatly appreciated to support our future SWE events (you can Venmo our treasurer Daphne Poon @daphnep).
